SB-301 Query

I have a delema?? On a recently acquired SB-301, the vfo (110-32) only turns a little over 3 1/2 turns from full ccw then locks solid . This is when disconnected from the indicator. It takes about  5 1/2  turns on my 401. Whats up? Thanks for any help.
