Electrolytic capacitors

I whole heartedly agree with what Glen says about modern capacitors.
When my friend brought his sb 200 to me for repair because it was popping
the
circuit breakers, I traced the problem to shorted electrolytic caps....
youve seen
the ones in the sb 200 .... same type in the dx 100 and Apache
transmitters...
big cans... 450 v each .... Anyhow, I called the local parts house and
asked the
price.... then sent my friend to pick them up.... when he got back with
caps that
are about one third the size of the big cans in the sb 200, but same value
and voltage
ratings.... I was shocked. I was expecting big cans .... I hadnt replaced
caps in
anything for a long time....
Anyhow... I put them in and we fired up the linear and it worked just
fine....
By the way.... the caps only cost 6 bucks apiece....
