SB-301 Receiver / Speaker Combo...

Greetings Fellow Heathniks...
I've just completed a minor modification to my beloved SB-301 that just may
interest a few of you...
Remember how you HATE transporting your receiver to places like Field Day,
the cottage, etc. etc. because it involves bringing along peripherals like
an outboard speaker? Well, the other day it dawned on me that I could easily
mount a small speaker INSIDE the enclosure lid, just above the coil
shield...
I did just that---and I couldn't be more pleased.
In order to prevent drilling ugly holes in the enclosure to support it, the
speaker is instead secured to the underside of the lid by virtue of 4 small
dabs of silicone sealant, one at each corner (it can readily be removed
should the need arise, of course, & the silicone simply peeled off). I used
small guage twin lead type speaker wire---there is just enough of a crack
between the top of the base of the enclosure, & the bottom of the lid above
it when closed, to slip the wire through to the outside of the rig.
An RCA phono plug was soldered to the wire, & the works plugged into the
8-ohm outlet at the rear apron.
Works like a charm---and now there's one less thing to worry about hauling
around, & finding a place for, whenever the SB-301 here "...goes portable".
