Anyone own a HD3006 'Crossfire"

Does anyone own one of these 'little brown box' RTTY tuning indicator?
I am wondering if the LEDs do any kind of power up test?
Will they so much as blink when you power up, or only when it gets an input. 
How can I test it...with an audio signal?...battery?    (without plugging it into a TU)
