We tried 572-Bs [running them on their sides in the Clipperton amplifiers]
other than Cetron or United Electric [from France or the Far East] at
Dentron with BAD results.

I second Randy's information. Grid-to-cathode (filament) shorts can result.
572B was designed for horizontal service, however. That's why it tolerates
that. Not sure if Chinese ones are designed for horizontal use.
