digital meter question

Thanks for all the suggestions on the digital meter as a gift item.  For
the threshhold question of whether my nephew would even use such a
thing, I finally thought to e-mail his dad, my brother, with that
question.  The alternative is a bunch of hand tools to take to college.
 I can't imagine living without tools, but wherever I've gone, I've been
surrounded by people who don't have a screwdriver, unless maybe there's
one out among the old paint cans in the garage.  When somebody needs a
screwdriver at my office, where do you think they go?  I started giving
tools as graduation presents some time back, and so far the kids haven't
had a problem with duplication.
