SB-104 Discussion

I'd like to wade in on this discussion re: the SB-104. I have owned 3
of these units, SB-104's and SB-104a's. I did the conversion of one
unit to an SB-104A. I love working on these radios. There is lots of
available documentation and expertise available right here on this
Reflector and they are nice to use and operate and always sound good to
the receiving station. The "birdies" generated by the digital display
can be a bit of a nuisance but its never caused me any real grief. To me
they are no more problematic then any other piece of vintage gear. In
fact, once operational, my experience is that they seldom need further
attention.

In my opinion a person needs intermediate level tech skill and a scope
to work on them along with the proper manuals. Don't be afraid of
obtaining one. Like any old gear, get the best you can with the money
you have and dive in!

I love to remind my Collins Collector friends ( I also collect and use
Collins Gear) that the SB-104 was out way ahead of the Collins KWM-380.
Those guys at Heath were innovators were they not?!!
