The variable frequency in the Heath transceivers
operates so the dial tunes "backwards". The higher
the VFO frequency goes, the lower the output frequency
from the mixer.

When I turn the VFO knob clockwise, the dial turns
clockwise indicating tuning to a lower frequency. At
the same time, the variable capacitor in the VFO opens
to a lower capacitance indicating it should be tuning
to a higher frequency.
