Someone will probably have the answer - they may subtract the VFO frequency
from the heterodyne oscillator at the mixer, rather than add it.

Some Heath LMO's run 'backwards' compared to their counterparts in other
Heath rigs. With those, the capacitor is a 'butterfly' type, and if the set
screw is on the wrong side of zero due to retightening, they will tune in
the opposite direction of that intended.

I think for the HW-101 the answer is in the mixer design.
