Actually, you have to have the optional heterodyne
oscillator crystals and the crystals for upper and
lower sideband installed.  The SB-400 and SB-401 did
not come from the factory with these crystals
installed.  You had to order the optional crystals as
a separate kit.

They were originally designed to work with the SB-300,
SB-301, or SB-303 receivers.  When used with those
receivers the optional crystals were not needed.
