Minimum test and alignment equipment for test bench.....

That is why I suggested a VOM. A VTVM is nice, but it
isn't usually portable. I find that I don't use my
VTVMs much anymore, but do use my VOMs. A digital
meter is basically useless when you are looking for a
peak or null. They just can't follow the voltage
change fast enough. Also, you have to mentally think
if 3.145 volts is more or less than 3.154 volts! An
analog meter will "register" immediately with your
brain!

Now, when I am just looking at voltage, I definitely
use my digital meter!

There are all sorts of other things that come in
"handy" as well like power supplies, test "jigs" for
certain radios like handhelds, and so forth. But,
those come with experience and are highly dependent on
just what a particular individual is working on.

I'd add a good VTVM, one with a REAL meter. Sure
makes it a lot easier to peak (or null) something.
Yeah, the scope will work fine, but a DMM is useless
for alignment. A VTVM also keeps you from getting
"wrapped around the axle" due to _too much_
information. Do you really need to know if that 12V
supply is 12V or 12.2332V?.
