Minimum test and alignment equipment for test bench.....

Some service monitors will (in addition to what Glen stated) also cover the
DMM, Wattmeter, Dummy Load, and possibly scope plus Spectrum Analyzer - as
Glenn said - expensive - I have an IFR COM120B with the SSB option so it
fills the need for a GC Receiver too. It was about the price of a compact
car - but it has paid for itself in my business over and over again. An
amazing piece of gear.

The IFR 1200S is another fine piece for less $$$$ then the COM120 - for some
reason I have always liked their offerings more then HP or Motorola. Even
the lowly IFR500 will do a lot in a small box and those are around for some
pretty modest prices - service monitors are particularly handy if you also
have to do mountain top service on repeaters, etc.

Besides a good set of hand tools!

Signal generator with a calibrated attenuator (i.e.
URM-25 series, TS-497 series, HP-606, HP-608, etc.).

Audio generator (i.e. HP-200 series, HP-204 series)

Digital multimeter

Analog VOM (i.e. Simpson 260)

Wattmeter (i.e. Bird 43)

Dummy load (at least 150 watts)

Alignment tools

Deviation monitor (if working on FM equipment)

Good oscilloscope

Frequency counter (to at least 600 MHz)

GDO ("Grid Dip Oscillator")

Soldering gun (100/150 watt, etc.)

Soldering iron (40 to 50 watt)

Soldering pencil

A service monitor is much more expensive, but will
take care of the signal generator, deviation monitor,
frequency counter, and possibly the audio generator.

A dummy load/ wattmeter is convenient (i.e. Bird 6154)

A general coverage receiver is handy to have nearby to
listen to the signal, etc.

Other than that, you will "discover" things that make
your particular situation easier.

I have a question about what you might think would be
at minimum, required equipment for a home rf test
bench. I do occasionally work on smt,but mostly older
solid state and tube gear.
