o rings do the job

There was an article I came across in an old qst hints and kinks section
that dealt with
that.   I'd have to dig it back out for all the details... but as I
recall, it said to take the
tuning knob off so you see that little slot underneath and the ring nut
that tightens the
shaft...      take the ring nut off the shaft so that you can see the
whole slot ...  then take
a spring ... like one that is used in ball point pens...   and insert
that in the slot vertically and
all the way in...  that applies pressure upward to reduce or eliminate
the slot.   then put the
ring nut back on and tighten... then put the knob back on..
     I'll dig out the article if anyone is interested....
