Other Boat Anchors

I have a ham friend that has MS and is unable to do benchwork anymore,
or to think clearly on technical issues. He has threeold  Kenwood
TS-530s's that all exhibit the same problem: no bias/idling current
(should show ~60 ma.), and no xmit/tune-up functions. Bias adjust has no
effect. I realize that this is not the domain of Heathkits, but I'm
trying to help my friend with a minimal knowledge of his equipment. The
service manual is next to no help, and I get no response from Kenwood.
If there's anyone out there that can point me in the right direction, I
will be very grateful. Thanks.
