HW-100 & HW-101 paint

Sometimes I think that Heath was like the old Atwater
Kent Company. AK seemed to use whatever paint was in
the gun at the time. There was no "rhyme or reason"
as to some of the paint combinations that they used
and Heath seemed to be almost as bad!

On the SB line (especially the SB-301, SB-401, and
SB-600) I have found at least 5 different cabinet
colors and 3 different front panel colors let alone
the various textures used on those items! I
understand that it was possible to order the receiver,
transmitter, and speaker at the same time and get
completely different colors on the cabinets and
panels.

I solved the problem of different cabinet colors by
repainting all of mine the particular color that I
thought was the most attractive (the cabinets did need
repainting anyway). As for the front panels I haven't
done anything to them since I don't have the means of
redoing the silkscreening.

I know that I've seen comments about the lack of
consistency of Heath's paint but does anyone know when
Heath used wrinkle type paint vs. flat for these
models? The HW-100 that I have has wrinkle type paint
although the bottom pan appears a brighter shade. My
HW-101 (10 years newer) has a smooth finish, but not
glossy like my DX-60A etc. NOTE: all of my radios were
bought used so I can't be sure the cabinets have not
been switched.
