FWIW, Mullard (tube company) in the UK put out some books with very complete
do it yourself designs for audio equipment and radios back in the late '50's
/ early '60's. The audio tube one had a green cover IIRC.

Also, a UK company called Ladybird? put out a little book round then showing
step by step how to build transistor radios without soldering - suitable for
about 8 year olds I would guess.
