If you take a good, close look at the early SB-400 transmitter, and the
SB-102 transceiver, you'll see lots of ways that Heath got on the "econo
bandwagon" to save $$$ in its later years...

Where they employed crystal sockets in the '400, the HC-6U's in the newer
'102 are soldered directly into their respective circuit boards...where even
the 6CL6 driver in the '400 had parasitic suppression, no such extra
componentry is visible on the '102.

My biggest personal "beef" with the marque in the "SB" days is the el-cheapo
paint jobs on the enclosures---colours never seemed to match, and I recall
once where I bathed an enlosure in warm, soapy water to clean off a previous
owner's smoke residue, and the paint actually flaked off! I don't think
Heath believed in spending bux for aluminum paint primers back then...

Still, I continue to LOVE the stuff, despite these apparent shortcomings...!
