Re Heathkit Cult

Hi All,
My first was an AT-1 in 1954. Probably have built hundreds of Heathkits
over the years including several solid state TV's for friends. Did it
for the fun.
Heathkit parts were always of standard commercial quality and never had
a problem there. Have a collection of over 90 working Heathkits, most
of which
still have many of the original components.
As to Radio Shack. I can see why they are going out of the parts
business. Most of the stuff they sell is inferior Chinese junk that
won't last and which I refused to buy. Mouser has always been fantastic
and has eaten their lunch. Their online ordering service is great and
there is no minimum except for resistors. You must buy 10
but they are so cheep so that is no big deal. RS has gone from an
electronics hobbyists store to a consumer products store. They can't
compete with Circuit City and the other giants. Gone are the hobby
projects, the ham gear and now the parts. Don't see how they can make
it. RS will probably go the way of Heathkit.
Just ordered a custom wall unit to set up the Apache, Mohawk and SB
stations so I can see them all glow in the dark. The power company
will love me.
Cheers,
Wayne, W4GBW
