Heath VTVM]

Many years ago (this was way before Alkaline batteries
became available), it occurred to me that the VTVM (V7,
at the time) battery could be replaced by a simple
circuit, consisting of 6 diodes, two resistors and two
electrolytic caps.

I have no idea what the circuit under discussion consists
of, but assume it is similar to the one I concocted.
Probably, a simplified version consisting of a single diode
rectifier (mine was a bridge) with no voltage stabilization
(mine used a couple of diodes). In mine, the transformer
filament winding survived for quite a few years, until I
finally sold the unit, replacing it with a IM-13. My VTVM
was used on a daily basis, running off 50Hz mains.
