Hi Guys!
Well, first a thanks to everyone that has offered help and
ideas. I am making some progress. I did have 6146B's in the
finals, but substituted 6146's with no improvement. I am seeing
some grid drive. The drive level pot has no effect on it though.
Depending on where the vfo is tuned, I can get drive by adjusting
the drive tune cap. With 1 mil of drive, and about 200 mils on the
plates, I am getting about 90 watts out. The power out decreases
with a decrease in grid drive, so I don't think the finals are
oscillating. In CW mode, it seems to function o.k., and seems to
be on frequency. There is still the problem of power out when I
key the mic. It is as if The mic ptt switch is acting like a cw
key. I have been looking for obvious shorts around the mode
switch, but nothing apparant. I have adjusted the ALC pot, and the
meter now rests in the correct position, but there is no movement
when whistling in the mike, regardless of audio gain setting. I
haven't had too much spare time lately, but would welcome any
additional ideas or comments. Thanks again to everyone that took
the time to help. Oh, and being optimistic about getting this rig
on the air, I am in need of an ant. changeover relay. If anyone
has a surplus relay they would like to sell, I would like to
purchase one.
