On the 1w and 2w resistor question, I'm not certain just how much  
"assortment" you need.  But I'd recommend getting a MOUSER catalog and  looking 
carefully for what you need.  There is another outfit called OCEAN  STATE ELECTRONICS 
that has numerous items of interest.  A "Google" search  will lead you to them.
