HW-101

Terry,

Very standard things to check will be the capacitors and carbon-comp
resistors in the audio section. The capacitors, especially paper tubular or
electrolytic, may be dried out and either off-value or shorted, and I find
appromimately one carbon composition resistor per season fails inside my
HW-101 and increases to many times its manufactured resistance.

Try to replace the carbon composition resistors with new carbon composition
units, although in the audio section (if that's where the problem lies)
carbon film or metal film units should also work well. A partial recap kit
for the HW-101 can be had at http://www.elinkusa.com/hw-101/ . If you're
inside the cabinet, you might as well summarily replace the drive belts to
the load and drive variable capacitors - they're available from the same
place.

Also, try cleaning the T/R relay contacts with some contact cleaner.

Good luck,
Mark
