HP-23 fuse.

The first model HP-23 uses a chassis mounted fuse holder: the fuse is
a 3 amp slow blow. Works just fine. I have one HP-23B in which the
breaker has been replaced by a chassis mounted fuse holder. The fuse
in it is a 3 amp slow blow.

Both power supplies work fine.

Who ever told you that a fuse wouldn't work in an HP-23 was probably
trying to use a fast blow fuse. Those WILL NOT work, since when you
first turn the switch on, the power supply caps look like a dead short to
the rectifiers, and that starting surge will blow a fast blow fuse.

Slow blow fuses, made for motor starting, work just fine.
