HW101 frying at power up

I've been working on an HW-101, and have an  intermittent problem that seems 
to only happen after the radio has been sitting  cold for several hours.  When 
I first turn it on, the radio sounds like  it's arcing.  When it first 
happened, I just finished making resistance  checks listed in the manual, and had 
left the radio in tune.

Since the radio was turned on in transmit mode, ie tune.  Have you checked the condition of the switch,  not sure if it can take the current of Xmit during cycle.
Also check condition of the switch loop back to the power supply,  have found poor solder joints on this loop in HW100 and they are similar.
