  I still have not solved the receive problem on the 101. Excellant receive on coax center 
conductor,nothing on the coax with the ground tightened up. Has to be something in the 
radio, but what?

It sure sounds likd either the coax or the antennna is shorted from the center conductor 
to the shield.
If the receiver input was shorted from the center pin to the chassis, you wouldn't hear 
anything with just the center conductor touching.
