Hot Carrier or Shottky(?) diode recommendations?

I'll broadcast this, only because this diode has come up before and (understandably) will again. Your question got my curiosity up, and I dug a little. The short version appears to be that 1N191 is a germanium that's hard to beat for linearity across a wide band. Comparable to it is a 1N5711 hot carrier, that's available from Mouser. Digitron shows availbility of 191s, but I don't what their price or minimum quantity are.

Take a look at a K2 application note from Elecraft:
http://www.elecraft.com/Apps/RF_Det_application_note.htm
and an item from this list from last July:
http://listserv.tempe.gov/admin/WA.EXE?A2=ind0507&L=heath&F=P&S=&P=8538
Both are educational. Thanks for making me look!

Terry
