A very good replacement for the 1N191 is the hp5082-2800
which is now available from several manufacturers as the
1N5711.
Mouser has 57,000 Vishay 1N5711 in stock for $0.13 each in
small quantities.
See: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/624/334.pdf
The HP/Agilent data sheet is at:
http://www.alltronics.com/download/22S002.pdf
The 1N5711 works very well in the SB/HW balanced modulators
and as RF detectors in SWR bridges and output circuits.

Can someone recommend a very good upgrade to the usual 1N191
diode Heath
used in detectors and ring modulators? ........
I believe what I want is a so called 'Hot Carrier Diode'
(Schottky?)........
And a source would be appreciated. ......

recommendations?
Terry, Rob, et al,
I replaced the diodes in my HW100 with Schottky diodes quite
some time ago and it made a definite improvement in S/N
ratio. The receiver is quieter for sure. I bought them from
Brad Thompson AA1IP at email Brad.Thompson at valley.net which
is the last address I have.
The part number is for the HP 5082-2800 and he charged me $1
including shipping for a handfull of them plus a couple of
other ones. Even if his price is more, it is well worth it.
Good luck and 73, Dick KF4NS
