SB-102 on MARS frequency ?

Greetings to the group,
  I have recently acquired a SB-102 and would like to be able to operate it
on a MARS frequency of 4038.5 USB.  The manual says that if I use an aux
xtal, I should not go more than 25 khz out of band because of the band pass
filter characteristics.  Does anyone have experience with going further out
of band, or have any suggestions on how to modify the rig to work on 4038.5?
