Hi Brian,
This fall I bought a nice Johnson Viking Challenger ($50). At home I
looked at the wiring....what a rat's nest underneath...with unsoldered and bad connections.
I poked around under tha hood for a few days re-soldering, re-wiring, re-routing and replaced the filters and behold; "IT LIVES".. I wonder if this puppy ever saw any use..

Now I have an AT-1 (bad mica cap) and an Adventurer (missing solder).

Makes one wonder how many hopeful kids built these rigs that didn't work
and then gave up ham radio in frustration....

I built my first rig, and Eldico TR-75 at 15, and it worked great...There were no other hams around to check it out for me so I got V E R Y lucky...

All these thoughts bring me back to my old Novice days (1954)

Happy New Year to all, and CU today,

(New Years day) on Silent Key Night (SKN)..... 7.040 MHz

Interesting Jim. Things happen - like the 33 ohm resistor someone
put in thie 6DE7 mod stage here. This rig has never been on the air
on AM and MAY have never been on the air on CW either by the
looks of it!

Funny thing is, there is no modulation either. I think it may have a
bad tube, so am going to test the 12AX7 and 6DE7 before I get far
into more signal tracing. I know my mic is good, but the voltages
don't look quite right on the three audio stages here...

Oscillator is working nicely now though!
