Oxidation

In the sheet metal business, we used to wipe the surface with a rag soaked 
in vinegar prior to painting. Leaving it too long on the surface before 
flooding with water may tend to turn the surface black. Might try diluting 
the vinegar first. The coating is zinc. Fred W7PRV
