Antenna coils

Well - you could dig out the Antenna Book and calculate the inductance (or
measure it if you have the tools - like maybe a known capacitance and a dip
meter) and then go from there - but probably somewhere around 1/2 to 2/3 the
way out - the farther out the loading the better (generally) - but the
farther out the more inductance needed for the same overall length.

Question. I have two antenna shortening coils for 40 meter dipoles. I think
they were made by Spiro. PVC pipe about 7" long and 1.5" in dia.  They are
marked in pencil 38 feet overall. Any thoughts as to correct placement in
the wire elements? Fred W7PRV
