DX-100 QUESTION

Hi Bill,

Yes, there was a mod to remove the 20-45 "special" cap as well as the 200pF
mica and the 250pF variable and replace them with a triple-gang 400pF per
section variable (which took the place of the 250pF variable). This was a
good change, because the special cap and associated wiring tended to run
very hot, but it made the outer concentric loading switch serve no purpose,
so rigs with the mod will only have the innermost (red) fine loading control
or if the outer knob and switch were left in place for cosmetic reasons they
will not do anything.

Subject: [HEATH-TEMPE] DX-100 QUESTION

Good Day Everyone,

I have been collecting parts to restore several OLD Heathkit DX-100
transmitters. However I run into a problem, in two of the transmitters there
is the Heathkit "special capacitor" missing. The capacitor's heathkit part
number is 20-45, there are three capacitors in one, 400-600 and 800 mf built
together. Heathkit call it the "course loading" capacitor, a small red knob
which is part of that control varies the final loading (capacitor 250 mmf)
which is connected to the antenna output connector. Some of the rigs I have
this and some don't.

I was told Heathkit sent out a modification stating that the "special
capacitor" should be removed.

Can anyone please varify this?
