Here's my order of preference:

1. This group
2. Local ham club
3. Local Ham meets
4. Boatanchor newgroups/lists

...and some patience.

Remember:

1. eBay is an auction, and one in a very big room.  In any auction, the guy 
with the biggest wallet in the room always wins.

2.  As such, it's pretty much a seller's market.  Not having my own natural 
gas well in my back yard, I stopped buying gear on eBay a long time ago.

3.  This is the place where, IMHO, you'll genrally find straighter shooters 
and better suppliers.  Gotten some very square deals through here.  Post 
your wants, you'll be surprised what can happen.
