SB-102 Mic Level Inquiry

I have connected a new Heil "vintage" microphone (high impedance) to my
Heathkit SB-102 transceiver and noticed that I have to talk relatively
loud into the mouthpiece to get decent modulation (monitored on the
internal ALC meter and external wattmeter).  And this is with the Mic
Level set at maximum.  

 

Any suggestions on getting better gain without extra equipment (e.g.,
processors, pre-amps, etc.)?  I was told that this particular microphone
was a good match for the SB-102...
