Screwdriver Antenna, Not Really Off Topic

Dick, Why not make a center-fed zepp type antenna, using insulated elec
wire, such as #12 thhn/thwn solid copper wire. Feed it with 450 ohm ladder
line and, either a transmatch capable of accepting balanced feeders, or use
a 4 to 1 balun just outside radio room, then run a relativly short piece of
coax (perhaps 10 ft or so) to tuner.
That way you should be able to string the antenna through the trees. You
will find that the settings on the transmatch will change with outside
element changes, but it would be much much better than a screwdriver
antenna. Good luck, Jeff k3kyr at arrl.net

Subject: [HEATH-TEMPE] Screwdriver Antenna, Not Really Off Topic

This may be slightly off topic, but where can one get antenna related
information except from other hams.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of antenna? I am looking for
a small, tunable antenna for 80-10 meter coverage in a small package. I have
an extremely wooded lot with no room for a dipole. I am also considering
this type for mobile and portable operation.

Any comments about reliability, usefulness and functionality would be
appreciated. Any information about specific manufacturers would also be
appreciated.
