HP-23 retrofit

It's true that they are all solid-state but the point of the conversions is to put new components in the PS - particularly the electrolytics which are usually just waiting to go 'south' and take out the transformer. Some of the modification packages include surge protection, higher temperature electrolytics and several other improvements. I think adding the mod kits is an excellent longterm investment - should set up the power supplies for another 30 years of productive life.

Mike, WB8VGE, <http://www.theheathkitshop.com/index.html> did a modification on my Swan power supply and it has turned out well. Mike has an excellent reputation, by the way (and, no, I have no business relationship with Mike).

There are a number of other high quality modification kits out there. I would look for the use of high quality PC board, use of high quality electrolytics and some of the nicer features such as built surge protection.

The kits are, as I mentioned, a good long term investment. I have three HP23s and another Swan PS that need doing - just need the budget.

Hi Bob

Aren't they already all solid state (every one I've owned has been...)?
