You can key the cathode of a 6AG7 very nicely, but you may have to 
experiment with the feedback components to avoid clicks and chirps.  All my 
early rigs did it.  You should also put fixed bias on the final. 
Alternatively, use your T/R relay to key the osc. and cathode key the final. 
The Handbook has some info on shaping the keying envelope.  If you can do a 
little more work, look up grid block keying and use it on the final.  Makes 
the nicest envelope shape of all, with easy circuitry to adjust the shaping.
