6AH6 vs 6AU6

Heath changed the 6AU6 in the Apache (TX-1) to a 6AH6
after a short period of time to improve the stability
especially when used on SSB with the SB-10. The very
early kits used the 6AU6 but all of the later versions
came with the 6AH6.
Also, the early kits did not have the fan in the final
amplifier cage. Heath came out with a modification
kit to add the fan which was "standard" in the later
kits.
Replacing the 6AU6 in the VFO of the DX-100 series and
the VF-1 definitely helps with the frequency stability
of those units.

Umm...the filament current IS different, according to
RCA Tube Manual RC-20; ...the 6AU6 is 300 ma, the 6AH6
is 450 ma. Having said this, most filament
transformers/windings can handle the extra 150 mils,
but you might want to check the schematic to make
sure.
Replaced the 6AU6 with a 6AH6 in my TX-1 for some more
VFO stability, and the filament transformer's been
fine for two years now.
