HX-10 Power Transformer

I've had a Marauder for several years, and have had no trouble. I think
that on these, as on the HT32 and 37 series Hallicrafters, as well as on
perhaps some similar types of transmitters of the era, the full wave 5 volt
rectifiers are a problem, in that the 5 volt coil carries the full HV. I
have heard that the windings can break down and short, which is why there
are many blown transformers of this type. (I'm not a real tech type, so I'm
not sure of this) In any case, on most of my old rigs, which I use
regularly, I replace the 5 volt rectifiers (or 866s) with inexpensive 1KV
1Amp diodes, and, importantly, disconnect the 5 volt windings.
If you come across one with a blown transformer, I have heard of people
using the Heath HP23 power supplies, which supply the appropriate voltages,
at least for the HT32, and installing a suitable connector on the back. The
Heath supplies are plentiful and inexpensive. I haven't checked the
requirements for the Marauder, but I think they should be similar. Perhaps
another filament supply might be needed if the filament requirement is more,
but I think the HV and bias voltages would probably work with little
trouble. If someone is interested, I can look up the voltages in the
Marauder manual. I know of 2 people who are using the HP23 with HT32s,
which commonly have blown power transformers. I have solid stated my HT32,
and no problem.

I've been thinking that I want to acquire an HX-10 so I've been watching for
them on eBay to see what the market price would be and I've noticed a couple
of them for sale with their power transformers removed. Was there a chronic
problem with HX-10 power transformers? Anything else I should know about
this transmitter before I attempt to buy one?
