HP-23 power supply question?

Hi David...

First, this is the correct power supply. I think this one has a switch on
the back for either 275 or 300 V Low Voltage. If not, it has to be hard
wired for the correct voltage. I think that the SB101 requires the 300 V,
but best get a manual to be sure.

The power switch is in the transceiver. Two of the connections in the cable
from the
power supply are contacts to turn the supply on.

Tune up procedures are pretty standard. I don't have a 102, but have a 100,
101, 401 etc, and they're all basically the same. Make sure you have a
speaker plugged in and a 50 ohm dummy load, then peak the drive control. Set
the mike gain to about 9 o'clock, go into tune, and dip the final with the
PA tune control. Advance the load control, then redip the final, until
you're getting the max plate current. Then increase the gain until you get
about 250 mills of plate current. These are approximate, so get a manual!
If you're not sure, don't do it, or you could toast the finals or worse!
Maybe you can get a local boatanchor guy to help for the first time.

Good luck! And congrats on the extra!

Subject: HP-23 power supply question?

All

I am literally moments away from attempting to go on the air with a SB-101
for the first time. There is only ONE thing holding me back!

I currently have the SB-101 hooked to a HP-23A power supply. Is this a
"valid use" for this supply or is this the one for A HW-101

I have only to plug the PS into the outlet and then comes the next problem.

If this is the correct power supply for this rig, WHERE IS THE POWER
SWITCH???? I have 2 SB-101's and 3 HW-101's that I have collected over the
years. The ONLY heath rig that I have had on the air is a 5400 I assembled
myself. I have never had a HW or an SB-101 on the air. On the HW's there is
a switch on the AF gain to control the PS but that does not seem to exist on
either of the SB-101's that I have. So if I have the correct PS and rig
combination just where is the power switch.

I just passed my extra a couple weeks ago and am chomping at the bit to get
on-the-air but do not want to rush in ad wind up with a nice paperweight
where a good rig sat seconds earlier.

Also: I am a disabled vet, I have had 3 brain surgeries as a result I take a
LOT of pain meds (approximately 120Mg of morphine / day) can someone tell me
a step-by-step basic tune-up procedure for either a SB or a HW 101. I worked
in back shop avionics on the f-111 and the f-117 aircraft so I am no dummy
on the theory.
