Thanks Dan, I had a hunch that that would be the case with the Marauder, will heed your advise on that one...... Pat ...... PS: By the way, all of my old boat anchors run on 108Volts from also an old Variac (5KW) from an older theater, it has a wheel that looks like a submarine hatch, it runs all of my workshop, the light bulbs last twice as much as in the rest of the house.

  Patrick -

I do NOT recommend solid-state replacements of these rectifiers..for a good reason..

The plate transformer - especially in the HX-10 is really UNDERRATED and has a very large tendency to fail with a shorted
high B+ winding to ground. The increase in plate voltage would NOT be a good thing - IMHO.

Having been down this road I recommend that you use the tube type rectifiers AND try to run the units on 110VAC if possible to save
the transformers. Replacement is a big job - if you can find a transformer. Peter Dahl used to have them available for about $350 or
so if I recall - sigh..

  Good Luck

Does anyone knows the pros and cons of replacing the 2 5R4 and one 5U4 on the Heatkit TX-1 or the HX-10 with a home made replacement as described by K6MAY in the following link http://www.k6may.com/CollinsTip2.shtml??? I just ordered the parts from Mouser Electronics and would like to have a second opinion from de Heathkiters................Pat PS it seems to me that just the heat elimination and power load on the power transformer filament portion is a plus.
