HW100/101 coil cover

Has anyone heard of or has a mod for the funky coil cover spring 
clips? I have tried several innovations but none has really worked 
reliably. One of the Heath bulletins says to remove them if you have 
trouble with 40M. They also give details on some mods that go along 
with this.

While on the subject of shielding for the HWs, some time back I either 
read or saw a posting about the parasitic suppressors which 
recommended removing them, which I did. I have not had any parasitic 
in the VHF range while checking with my counter. Just trying to find 
out where I heard this suggestion.
