[Heath] HR-10B question

Hi, gang!
Well, my ol' HR-10B seems to be working pretty well, although I haven't
realigned it yet. So far, the BFO is smack on, the calibrator is accurate,
and I'm listening to the AM guys on 7290. Good sigs.
Only problem so far is that the S-meter doesn't register. The meter works as
the movement operates when I back off the RF gain. And the meter zero
adjustment works as it should.
I'm waiting for a manual copy to arrive in the mail, so I don't want to mess
with the front-end and interstage coils until I get into the complete
alignment procedure.
Does anyone on the list have any thoughts about how well the S-meter
typically works?
