I added the 500 Hz filter from the HW/SB line years ago and it worked great.  Require some simple xfmrs to match...

Caution, Ken!  The last time I mentioned adding AGC to the receiver in my HW-16, the list soundly boxed my ears!  Perhaps the clientele has changed a bit since that question I posed about ten years ago.  Good luck.    73  John...
