That is supposedly true.  After Zenith bought Heath, Hewlett-Packard did not want any equipment bearing an HP- nomenclature being produced by Heath.  Whether or not Hewlett-Packard could win a lawsuit is open for discussion.  But, Zenith supposedly thought that the situation really was not that important and definitely did not require spending the money on a lawsuit.

Don't know if it's true, but I once read that the reason the HP-23 later became a PS-23 was due to a complaint from Hewlett Packard.  They didn't like Heath/Zenith using "HP" once they got into the computer business.
