[Heath] SB-401 stiff neutralizing capacitor won't turn

The small variable capacitor used for neutralizing the finals on my SB-401
(inside the finals' cage) has become very stiff. Now, during the
neutralizing procedure, it will break or bend the tip on a plastic tuning
screwdriver, and it won't turn. It can be made to turn if you use a small
metal shaft type screwdriver, but that is not a practical option as it
throws off the capacitance value as soon as you insert it.

Does anyone know of a method for loosening up this part again?

Thanks,
