Here's a link to plans for a 1GHz (!) probe that costs about a buck to 
build. I built one of these years ago when Mr. Smith put on an informal 
'after hours' class at the company I was working for. It's cheap, 
lightweight, tiny, and performs as well as a high-priced commercial 
probe. You certainly don't need a 1GHz probe for a 5MHz scope, but you 
can't beat the price.
