OK. Then it IS off internally.

Good. If your manual is the same as mine, you should find the procedure to
align the VFO on page 121 under VFO Alignment.

First, check the voltages to the VFO and make certain they are correct.

Those directions on page 121 in the manual assume you do NOT have a
frequency counter. Those use the 100 kHz crystal calibrator.

Since you DO have a frequency counter and obviously know how to use it,
do the below instead.

Throughout all this below, ignore the dial readout until I tell you.

1) Set the knob at the counter-clockwise stop.

2) Adjust the VFO COIL so that your counter reads 4995 kHz.

3) Go to the clockwise stop

4) Adjust either or both of the VFO trimmers so that your counter reads 5505
kHz.

You may have to do this several times in order to get the correct "span". You
want at least 510 kHz span, or at least 5 kHz above and below what the dial
will eventually read.

5) Go back to the counter-clockwise stop.

6) "Slip" the dial until the hairline is centered over the "Stop" marking at the
500 end of the dial.

Now, use the readout on the dial from now on, being careful to NOT slip the
dial from where you set it in step 6)

7) Turn the knob so that "500" is centered under the hair-line

8) Adjust the VFO COIL so that your counter reads 5000.0000 kHz.

9) Turn the knob until "0" is centered under the hair-line

10) Adjust either or both of the VFO trimmers until your counter reads
5500.0000 kHz.

Repeat steps 7) through 10) until there is no significant improvement.

Assuming that all the other parts of the VFO are still OK, you should be
done.

Good luck and vy 73,

Ken W7EKB
