I'm not a ham, but maybe this might help.  Sure tested a lot of 
microphones over the years.  Dynamic elements of that era typically 
would output in the -50 dbm range.  Obviously crystal elements were much 
higher.  Any decent signal tracer or sensitive audio amp would confirm 
functionality, and of course, an oscilloscope as well.
