Mike and Jerry:
I think the misunderstanding here lies in the fact that we were, at first, talking about using
the SB-200 and other GG linear amps to amplify the controlled-carrier AM of such rigs as
the DX-40.
Since controlled-carrier AM is very "cyclic" in power needed/used, very much, sorta, like
SSB, one can more safely use GG amps to amplify that.
Also, as I remember it, the FCC limits CARRIER power to 375 watts for full plate-modulated
AM, since the PEP is supposed to be 4 X the carrier power, and we are limited to 1500
watts PEP for any mode.
